Atlanta is the state capital and the largest city (3.5 million inhabitants) in Georgia, USA.
Atlanta started as a railroad hub for trains traveling to Dallas and West Coast. It was completely
destroyed during the Civil War, and is now one of the fastest growing cities in USA.
In the Summer of 1996 it hosted the Centennial Olympic Games. It is the birth place of
Martin Luther KIng jr. and Ray Charles.
Main attractions in Atlanta include the Underground, Coca-Cola Museum, CNN, King memorial and the Centennial
Olympic Park in downtown, and Margaret Mitchell ("Gone with the wind") house, Georgia Tech campus and
Piedmont park in midtown. While in Atlanta allow for a visit to Stone mountain park to enjoy its
laser show on Summer week ends, the Jimmy Carter presidential library and Lake Lanier.
Nightlife is concentrated in the Buckhead area. Traffic is very difficult at rush hours and the subway
(MARTA) provides a good transportantion alternative. Winters are mild and Summers are hot (90's F) and
humide. Best time to visit is April to May and September to November.
